RealSkyView© (for Windows/Mac) is the software program which comes with the RealSky© 18 CD-ROM, highly compressed, version of the Digitized Sky Survey (DSS),
and allows the user to gain access to the DSS images. RealSkyView© is also a small subset of the commercial software application CCDSoft®, used for CCD camera control and image processing.
Both RealSkyView© and CCDSoft® were both developed by Software Bisque, and hence their common genisis.
RealSkyView© (CCDSoft®) also works with the slightly compressed, 102 CD-ROM version of the DSS as well, so the lists included below are independent of the
version of the DSS you may have. These lists are in ASCII text format and are easily importable into the "Target List" applet
portion of RealSkyView© (CCDSoft®), running in the advanced mode. Please let me know if you find any problems with the use of these target lists, as they mimic the center coordinates and sizes of the NGC/IC images presented on this web site. The images you see should, for the most part, be the same ones shown on this web site, with the exception of where I used 2nd generation DSS images available for the LMC and SMC objects, and obtainable from the DSS web site ( STScI Digitized Sky Survey (DSS)). Also, by using either of the CD-ROM versions of the DSS, you will not see annotated images as you do on this web site. Enjoy! - Bob Erdmann |
