Steve's Notes

===== NGC 7006 18" (7/24/06): this small globular was viewed at 435x and 565x and it appeared very mottled and lively in excellent seeing. ÊTwo or three very faint stars were visible pretty steadily and a number of extremely faint mag 16 stars appeared to sharpen up and momentarily sparkle, particularly in the 1.5' to 2' halo. ÊPerhaps a total of a dozen stars, sparkled or popped in and out of view. CGCG 448-030 is located just 3.6' SW of the core of NGC 7006! ÊIt appeared extremely faint and small, round, 10" diameter. ÊRequires averted and cannot hold steadily but repeatedly reacquired. ÊThere is an extremely faint star at the northeast edge which was sometimes noticed instead of the galaxy (or the galaxy has a stellar nucleus). ÊForms the south vertex of a small triangle with two mag 12.7/13.5 stars ~0.6' N and NE. It is nearly on a line between the globular and mag 7.3 HD 200079 10' SW. CGCG 448-028 is 11.6' NW of NGC 7006. ÊIt appeared faint, small, round, 20" diameter, even surface brightness. Visible with direct vision. ÊA wide pair of mag 11.5 stars lies 2.5' NNW. ÊThis is the brighter of the two galaxies observed near NGC 7006. 17.5" (8/5/94): moderately bright, small, 1.5' diameter containing a 1' core and a small halo. ÊThe core has a broad weak concentration with no nucleus. ÊThe halo is mottled but difficult to achieve clear resolution. ÊAround the edges of the halo four or five mag 15.5 stars or fainter pop in and out of view. ÊThe easiest resolved star is just at the north edge of the halo, a close pair is at the east edge and a single star is at the southeast side. ÊAn easy pair of mag 14 foreground stars at 20" separation is off the south side 1.6' from the center. ÊThe interacting system UGC 11672 lies 43' E. 13" (6/29/84): fairly faint, small, small bright nucleus, small fainter halo. ÊMottled and clumpy but not resolved at 360x.
