Corwin's Notes

===== NGC 6039 = NGC 6042. The description in Swift's list 4 reads "sp of 3," though it should be "sf of 3." Swift's positions in the Hercules Cluster area are not very good, and a few of his objects -- including this one -- are not identified with certainty. In defense of his positions, Swift claims that they agree well enough with Stephan's for the objects in common. This is true. It is also true that Swift's other positions for Hercules Cluster objects are much further off the mark. Did he perhaps fudge the numbers a bit for the three objects common to both lists? The others are NGC 6040 and NGC 6041, both pairs of galaxies. Also see NGC 5736 for another of Swift's nebulae which have different positions in different of his lists.

Steve's Notes

===== NGC 6039 See observing notes for NGC 6042. Possibly =*, HC. Incorrect identification in the RNGC; (R)NGC 6039 = NGC 6040B.
