Corwin's Notes
=====
NGC 5310 is a star, as are several other NGC objects found early in the career
of the "Great Refractor" at Harvard (see e.g. NGC 4582, NGC 5200, and NGC 5404
for others; but see NGC 5632 for another recovery for three of the early
Harvard objects). This one was found by Sidney Coolidge in 1859 (tragically,
he was killed during the American Civil War). There is a much fainter star
just 17 arcseconds to the southeast; perhaps this added some appearance of
nebulosity at the eyepiece. Coolidge's position is very good and allows no
mistaking the object he measured.
