Corwin's Notes

===== NGC 4509. JH's position is just one minute of time too small. As far as I can determine, this was first noted by Bigourdan who wrote, "This nebula, far removed from the GC position ..." His measured position is correct. Reinmuth flagged the corrected position, and Seyfert (yes, the same Seyfert) noted it in his paper in HA 105, 219, 1937. This is where it was picked up later by RC1. MCG and UGC have the correct position with no comment about the source of the correction. The galaxy itself is an odd little irregular galaxy with no trace of a nucleus, but with many patches and knots over its face. The position I've chosen is from GSC-A; it seems to represent the object as well as possible given the lack of structure.

===== NGC 4509 17.5": faint, small, slightly elongated SW-NE, almost even surface brightness. Located 4.5' NW of a bright double star ·1653 = 8.7/9.2 at 8".
