Corwin's Notes

===== NGC 3685 is CGCG 039-192. Though Todd's position is off (as it is for nearly all of the nebulae he found during his search for "the trans-Neptunian planet") his sketchs of the field are very good, as are his measurements of distances between stars and nebulae within each field. In this case, he found the higher surface brightness component of a pair of CGCG galaxies; the other is UGC 6466, a pretty low surface brightness barred spiral. This is Todd's number (9). See NGC 3604 for more about Todd's search.

Steve's Notes

===== NGC 3685 18" (4/30/11): faint, very small, round, 20" diameter. Forms the western vertex of a triangle with two mag 13 stars 2' NE and 2' E. Forms a close pair with UGC 6466 just 1' SW, but I wasn't convinced this low surface brightness spiral was glimpsed.
