Corwin's Notes

===== NGC 2225 and NGC 2226 have sometimes been considered to be the same object. In fact, the latter number refers to the compact core of the cluster, apparently unresolved in the 5- or 6-inch refractor with which Barnard found it. He described it as "Small, very difficult, with a star 10 close south" (the star is there). This is apparently from a letter to Dreyer as the observation does not appear in any of the Sidereal Messenger notes where Barnard published other of his early nebular discoveries.

Steve's Notes

===== NGC 2225 17.5" (1/23/93): NGC 2226 is the core of NGC 2225 and consists of a 2' faint group of six mag 14 stars, over unresolved haze. A mag 10 star is 1' S and a mag 12 star is 4' N. NGC 2225 probably also consists of several nearby mag 13.5-14 stars forming a 5' group elongated N-S. Herschel described the cluster as "hook" shaped. Listed as nonexistent in RNGC though shows up well on the DSS.
