Corwin's Notes

===== NGC 1829. JH describes this as a nebula: "F, R, 60[arcsec], r". He may have glimpsed some of the faint stars northwest of the center of the brightest patch of nebulosity, leading to the impression of mottling. I presume that it is these stars that have led later observers to call this simply an open cluster in the LMC. Nevertheless, it's clear that JH saw nebulosity here, so my preferred position is southeast of the stars.

Steve's Notes

===== NGC 1829 24" (11/18/12 - Magellan Observatory, Australia): this LMC cluster and HII region (LMC-N23A) appeared bright, fairly large, irregular round, 1.5' diameter. Four stars are within the nebulous glow including a mag 13.5 and two mag 14s and a mag 15. Located 1.8' NW of mag 7.9 HD 33486. The surrounding region includes several mag 12-13 stars, but these are detached from the glow. HS 114 lies 6.3' ENE.
